Many patients and parents are presented with the concern that they, or their child, will have developed an allergy to a pet, typically a cat or dog. They, or their children, have started to have allergy symptoms to these pets such as itchy eyes, sneezing or nasal congestion. Those with asthma may note that being exposed to their pets or other’s pets is worsening their asthma.

Allergy skin testing is able to determine if an allergy has developed to a pet. If an allergy to a pet is identified, options to decrease exposure, start medications or in some cases begin allergy shots will be discussed depending on the individual’s circumstances or wishes.
