Sinus symptoms are a very common complaint. The complaints include sinus pressure, headache and drainage. Sinus symptoms can be either acute or chronic. Many acute sinusitis are due to infections, in most cases viral. Bacterial sinusitis is less common and typically develops after a viral upper respiratory infection. Chronic sinusitis are sinus symptoms that persists after six weeks. Most chronic sinusitis is due to persistent inflammation due to various causes. Allergy is a common cause of chronic sinusitis symptoms. Most of these allergens are common everyday allergens such as house dust mite, pet dander and mold spores. Treatment of the allergic cause will improve the sinus symptoms and lessen the development of sinus infection.
