Biologic therapies are advanced, targeted medications designed to treat conditions driven by specific immune pathways. Unlike traditional drugs that affect the immune system more broadly, biologics are engineered to block particular molecules such as IgE, IL-4/IL-13, IL-5, or TSLP, that play key roles in inflammation. By interrupting these pathways, biologics can reduce symptoms, prevent disease flares, and protect affected organs in a safe, focused, and effective way.
We use biologics to treat several immune-mediated conditions, including asthma, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), atopic dermatitis, chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), food allergy, nasal polyps, COPD with high eosinophils, prurigo nodularis, hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES), and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). Evaluation before starting a biologic may include lab tests, breathing tests, endoscopy, or allergy testing, depending on the underlying disease. These medications are typically administered as injections every 2 to 8 weeks, either in clinic or at home, depending on the product and insurance coverage. Biologics are generally well-tolerated, with most patients experiencing few side effects, and they offer a highly personalized approach based on the patient’s specific disease mechanism. Many patients achieve significant improvement in symptoms, reduced need for steroids, and better long-term control with these targeted therapies.
